If you aren’t willing to give up smoking altogether, but you are looking for an authentic alternative to cigarettes then you might benefit from using electronic cigarettes. An electronic cigarette vapourises liquid in an atomizer which allows you to inhale and exhale as water vapour. Vaping is the term used for “smoking” e-cigs. There is actually no smoking involved, but rather there is water vapour. Therefore vaping is using an electronic cigarette.
To get started you will need to purchase a starter kit which includes everything you need to get going – including a charger. Then, as you go you can purchase a variety of liquids in different flavours.
Benefits of e-cigarettes
There are many benefits of switching from cigarettes to e-cigs. They include:
- They are suitable for long term use.
- A wide variety of flavours available to choose from including fruity flavours, menthol flavours and tobacco.
- They can also be used in most public places as they are exempt from the Smoking Ban in the Health Act 2006.
- They do not pass on passive smoke to those around you.
- With no flame burning they are also much safer to use than traditional cigarettes.
- They are healthier than tobacco cigarettes, meaning you should experience fewer coughs and colds.
How much can you save
E-cigs are up to 90% cheaper than traditional tobacco cigarettes. If you smoke 5 cigarettes per day it is an average annual cost of £548. Increase than to smoking 20 cigarettes per day and you could be spending a massive £2,190 per year.
In comparison, if you were to make the switch to e-cigarettes from smoking 5 cigarettes per day, you can expect to save over £400 per year. And if you were smoking 20 cigarettes per day the saving can be over £1,700 per year. That’s the equivalent of the average month’s wage after tax!
There are also plenty of indirect savings to be made. As e-cigs are a healthier alternative to traditional cigarettes, you should find that you need to take fewer days off work. You will even save money by not having to cover up the smoking smell with gum, not having to purchase lighters or even ashtrays. All these smaller savings add up over the year.

I use an e-cig….I used to spend about £40 a week on cigarettes now I spend about £6! What a difference!

My hubby smoked heavily for 35 years, then went on to the e-cig for a year, and now has been a non-smoker for just over a year! I think they are a great alternative for smokers, and makes quitting altogether so much easier.
