Cambridge is a beautiful city, and I feel lucky to be in such a vibrant city. We live on the outskirts on Cambridge, often making trips to The City for various reasons. Whether it is a spot of shopping, a nice brunch or exploring the historical sides of Cambridge, there is always something to do and see.
Cambridge has a great mix of well known high street stores and restaurants, as well as independent stores and restaurants; there are plenty of museums and colleges to explore, and if the weather is nice then you can’t beat a bit of punting on the river.
Punting
Cambridge is well know for punting along the river. You can choose to have a punting lesson, hire a boat and go it alone or book a punting tour. Is there anything more perfect than punting along the river and then settling down to a home made picnic on one of Cambridge’s many lush greens?
Shopping
Cambridge has a wide variety of shopping options, whether you are looking for high end treats, budget brands or local independent stores. The Grand Arcade boasts a great selection of stores, and you can easily get to the Cambridge Market from The Grand Arcade.
If you enjoy interesting or quirky items then Ark is worth a visit! My favourite items are the animal pen knife, paint tin candles and this climbing sloth.
Eating
If there is one thing you are never short of in Cambridge, that is places to eat! The High Tea Club offer a great variety of afternoon teas, dim sum and much more for you to enjoy. Bread & Meat does what is says on the tin – gorgeous meat sandwiches that will have your mouth watering. Rhode Island is on my “must go to” list, with everything from quinoa to ribs.
Staying over
If you are planning on visiting Cambridge and you are looking for affordable accommodation then Travelodge Cambridge have you covered. With three hotels within Cambridge and a handful on the outskirts, there is always one close by!
If you’ve travelled to Cambridge, what did you enjoy doing and seeing?

I have travelled to Cambridge several times since I studied there about 10-13 years ago. These days I love the Clarendon Arms near Parkers Piece – the food is delicious, there is great range of beers and the staff are very friendly. From my student days I used to go to the Clowns Cafe on King Street all the time but it’s no good at all if you don’t like clowns, cos the walls are covered in drawings of them. I understand the service in there can vary in there these days though. Other than that, you really can’t beat a wander round the colleges (if they’re open) – I would recommend the First Court of the smaller Christ’s College on St Andrew’s Street – it really is gorgeous.
