As the nights are drawing in and the weather outside is turning colder and wetter, we are loving spending time playing board games. It gives us a break from screens – time that we can spend together that doesn’t involve a TV or laptop screen.

Today I’ve got two more games to review for you – both of which we have been enjoying a lot.

Ticket To Ride

Ticket To Ride is a great game for all the family. Aimed at 2 – 5 players aged over 8, each game lasts around 45 minutes to an hour. If you enjoy games like Monopoly, Hotel Tycoon and Risk then you will love Ticket To Ride! The aim of the game is to get the most points, which are earned by completing train journeys. Players collect cards of various types of train cars that enable them to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America.

The game sounds as though it could be complex, but the instructions are really clear and you can be playing in a matter of minutes. The actual game components are good quality too, which makes this feel like a luxury game. Each turn is quite short so we didn’t get bored waiting for the other person to complete their turn.

With just the two of us playing, you would think that it would be easy to tell who was in the lead, but it was a very close game and it kept us on our toes.

Hey, That’s My Fish

Hey, That’s My Fish is called a sub-zero game of fishy strategy for 2 – 4 players. The name had me intrigued and we really looked forward to playing this. This game is probably aimed at children instead of adults but that didn’t subtract any fun from playing.

The aim of the game is simple – playing as penguins, try to collect as many fish as possible. There is a 60 hexagonal “board” with each tile holding between one to three fish on it. Sliding your penguin across the grid in a straight line to collect fish, the remaining empty hexes and existing penguins become areas to avoid. This game is really fun and I found myself getting extremely competitive with Tony. There was definitely some cheering going on when we managed to make some complex moves.
