Day 8 – March Money Making Madness

Day 8

Day 8 is about mystery shopping. The idea behind mystery shopping is that companies want feedback on service and quality of their products, so they look for mystery shoppers to answer specific questions, and in return they get some (or all) of their purchase reimbursed and a fee for going. It is a great way to not only make money, but also to make savings on eating out and every day essentials – I love getting pharmacy mystery shop assignments as it means I can restock our toiletries for free.

There are a lot of mystery shopping companies out there, but below is a list of my personal favourites – ones I work for on a regular basis and have always been paid promptly. Before accepting a mystery shopping job, it is important that you read the details carefully, including your reimbursement. There are a few sneaky assignments, especially with Market Force, where you have to buy a specific product/order a specific item that costs more than your reimbursement.

Signing up to mystery shopping companies is time consuming – there is often an application process asking you why you would make a good mystery shopper (attention to detail, reliability and good use of grammar are some suggestions) and perhaps even writing up an example report. You can, of course, copy and paste these for each website. When signing up, be sure to complete your profile, including defining your areas – think about where you live, work and where you spend a lot of time. There are no Teacher’s Pet tasks for today as signing up for these companies takes awhile.

  1. Market Force. Reviewed here.
  2. Amber Arch.
  3. Helion Research.
  4. Grassroots.
  5. The Mystery Dining Company (you are not offered a fee, but the reimbursement is very generous and will typically cover a 3 course meal for 2).

Do you do mystery shopping? Is it something that you’re keen to explore?
