Crazy Cat Lady

In a change from my usual money making posts, today I’m sharing my babies with you! Yes, I am a crazy cat (and hamster) lady. Tots100 have teamed up with Swell UK to provide one lucky winner with £500 to spend on their furry friends and I’m keen to take part!

Last year, whilst still living with his parents, Tony announced that he wanted a hamster. After a few months of looking, and lots of sorting out some space for a hamster, we were ready to go and buy one. Once we got to the cage, only one hamster was awake, giving us all of her attention. She melted my heart and I knew that she had to be the one. Tony went off to find someone to assist us, who woke up all the hamsters. After they’d played around for a bit, Tony made his announcement.

He wasn’t going for the hamster that had given us all of her attention. Oh. The sequence of events that followed may have included me bursting into tears about the poor hamster left behind and not talking to Tony, or the new hamster, on the drive home.

However, Tony being the sneaky little thing that he is, handed me the hamster still in her box whilst he left the room – only to come back to find that her and I were now on talking terms. That day, Coco (short for Coconut) entered our lives.

We even recently celebrated her first birthday! (Okay, a bit of a disclaimer here. We were looking after Tony’s niece on the day and throwing a ‘hamster birthday party’ was a great way to entertain her for a few hours.)

20131010-110334.jpgWe moved into our own house in October last year and we waited until December to get a kitten. We found someone advertising her last two kittens and decided to go and meet them. I had already picked out a name – Autumn. That day at work lasted forever, knowing that I’d be getting a new furry friend. However, all day long, the fact that there were two kittens left was playing on my mind. I’m sure you can see where this is going….we left with two kittens <3

20131010-110350.jpgTony finally settled upon “Winter” for “his” kitten. The name was actually suggested on Twitter and it suits the pair of them perfectly. Autumn and Winter (no, there are no plans to add Spring and Summer into the mix). Winter and Tony soon became inseparable. If Tony so much as hugged me, Winter would be up in his face trying to get attention.

Having a hamster and two kittens probably isn’t the best combination, but apart from a situation where Coco escaped from her cage (left open by someone who I won’t name – but it wasn’t me), the girls have all played nicely and taken an active interest in each other. Coco bites the kittens if they try to get too close – something they aren’t too fond of.

Now that the kittens are almost a year old, I can’t stop calling them “kittens”. Autumn has grown up and no longer wants to spend time with “Mummy and Daddy”, but Winter now has some devotion towards me but still gets jealous when Tony spends time with me.

I love coming home to all 3 of them (and Tony too sometimes). I’m going to miss them so much when we go to Florida.

This post is an entry into the Tots100/Swell UK competition.
