In the last week or so we received a leaflet through the door – I generally tend to bin everything, so it was by sheer chance that I had a look at it. The residents of Littleport, near Ely, have been asking about a local market for awhile now, so Adams Heritage Centre in Littleport have collaborated with other local businesses to bring us what we want.
This new initiative is being trialled so we decided to head out this morning and show our support. We were both extremely impressed and we can’t wait to go next week!
Our “haul”.
There were amazing brownies from Gourmet Brownie. Their walnut brownie has just won a taste award, so of course I had to buy it. Gourmet Brownie also do some great work with local young people, which I’m hoping to tell you more about in another blog post.
Mushrooms might not be the most exciting items to photograph, but G’s Fresh were there selling mushrooms – 3 punnets for £1. I still can’t get over this fantastic value for money, and they look really fresh too.
Love Beets recently featured in Degustabox (you can read more about Degustabox here) so I was surprised to found that they were a local company! The colourful bottles look great. There were free samples to try as well as larger bottles to purchase.
Other companies there were Watergull Orchards, The Cheese & Pie Man and The Shed Farm Shop.
Value for money
This is a hard one to judge – 3 punnets of mushrooms for £1 and corn on the cob for 40p were great value, but £5 for two pork pies is not usually a price I would pay. Some of the products would be special treats or even food to go into Christmas hampers (The Shed Farm Shop had an amazing array of local and unusual items that would be perfect in a foodie hamper). As with most things, if you find a price that you are happy to pay then buy the items and if not, don’t buy them.
